Best dance studio ever

I take adult classes here! The owner/instructor Bri is amazing! The atmosphere is always amazing clean and welcoming! If you’re looking for classes for you or your kids 10/10 recommend!!!

I love this dance school!! My daughter started only a few months after her 3rd birthday full of energy and a very short attention span but Ms Bri has always remained patient and phenomenal with her instruction techniques. My daughter has learned SO much (only7 months later) and truly enjoys going to dance every week. The class sizes are great, the class times/schedule works for the majority of working parents, and what I love most is that they have classes for ALL ages- yes, including adult classes from stretch to line dancing. It’s a small school that feels like a family which I also love- you’re not lost in the hustle of a “big business” company.

My daughter was invited by a friend on "bring a friend day". That was 2 years ago, and we never left. We have been with other studios, but this environment is very nurturing and kind,. I've witnessed my daughter bloom as a person and dancer. Not to mention the relationships that she has developed with her "dance sisters"; its BEAUTIFUL. The love and instruction that Ms. Bri pours into these girls is unmeasurable! The dance moms are AMAZING. I sent my daughter here for dance instruction, but we also gained a family!

“Where My Son Found His Rhythm… and So Did I!”
Over the past 15 years, I struggled to find the right dance studio for my daughters—so much so that at age 10, my eldest literally told me, “Dance just isn’t my thing.” At that point, I gave up the dream of being a dance mom; that was until last summer.

My 8-year-old son surprised me by wanting to try a hip hop class. As a mom of a young Black boy, I knew I had to be intentional about finding a studio that would nurture him, not just place him in the background or treat him like a prop. I asked around, visited a few studios—and honestly, I was disappointed by what I saw. In my opinion, boys should be treated, taught, and styled as boys in dance—not just as girls or someone there as supporting roles in a girls’ world.

Then on one hot summer day, I drove down Union Street and saw the Delaware Center for the Dance sign featuring a beautiful Black girl in a striking pose. I instantly looked them up online and on Instagram—and was immediately impressed. I signed my son up for a summer hip hop class, and the rest is history. He fell in love with dance, with Ms. Bri, and with the amazing group of friends he made. He now says dance (and football) are his go-to extracurriculars “for the foreseeable future.”

Bonus: Ms. Bri also offers fantastic adult classes! I was going regularly until my work schedule got hectic—but don’t worry, I’ll be back soon!

We have had nothing short of an amazing experience at DCFD. My daughter continues to grow and build confidence with every season that passes. Miss Bri along with every staff member she puts in place ensures that our children receive top level training. We are definitely here for the long haul! I highly recommend anyone (adults or children) sign up with DCFD because we are a family, not just “a dance studio”!

While waiting in the waiting room for my 8 year old daughter, I overheard a conversation between her and Ms. Bri. I think she was probably standing in the front and not doing something right because Ms. Bri asked "What is the rule when standing in the front?" My daughter responded, "You have to know what you are doing." Ms. Bri said, "So what do you do if you are standing in the front and do not know what you are doing?" My daughter, very loudly and confidently said "Go to the back!" Ms. Bri said, "Noo, you ask questions!" At the studio where we came from, my daughter was always taught that you go to the back in class if you don't know what you are doing. This unfortunately, made it easy for her to reinforce bad habits and never really have a full understanding of the "right way". That response from Ms. Bri not only spoke volumes of her teaching skills, it is also helping to facilitate a growth mindset in my daughter which is not only important in dance but also in life. If you are looking for the true value of what dance can give your child, I encourage you to try Delaware Center for Dance and listen to the knowledgeable, intelligent information that Ms. Bri sends to children. She is an amazing role model. Sometimes big studios do a lot of things for "show" and it's hard to navigate what's best for your child. As a former dancer, I used to think picking a studio based on the older dancer's technique was the best way. Then I learned how much outside training/privates kids were having to do to supplement, not to mention the astronomical cost attached. Not every dancer will have the same experience at every studio. So my biggest advice, when picking a studio is to focus on your child, their growth, how they feel not just about their friends but about actually learning to dance. Listen to what they are saying when they walk out of class and be as protective and selective as you can of the messages they are absorbing because this is shaping their minds and will become a part of them. Children are a reflection of their environment. We chose Delaware Center for Dance because it is comforting knowing my child's second home is still instilling the same values that we instill in our home and she feels comfortable enough to ask for help, even if it means staying after the class is over (Ms. Bri always makes time). She’s actually writing corrections down and working on them so she can go back and show what she fixed. Exposing her to the dance world beyond competitions, helping her build her portfolio, create a resume, and teaching the importance of culture, are some of the additional benefits DCFD offers. Will she be a famous dancer like she dreams to be? Who knows! Will she be a successful adult who understands the meaning of accountability, respect, resilience, determination, hard work, and responsibility? Absolutely!
